Long Haired Dachshund Haircuts – Step by Step
The following haircuts are effortless to do. We use only scissors and a comb. We ask our customers to keep their dog sitting in a chair for the haircut duration. This way, we keep the dog from jumping out of our arms when we reach down to cut his hair.
Step 1
Start by gently brushing out all knots along with any other debris that might be in the dog’s hair.
Step 2
Take your comb and hold it vertically and divide the entire head into four sections as shown above (front, back, left side, right side). That is where you will begin and end each cut. It is imperative to make sure that your comb lines up with the dog’s natural skin line (not the base of his hair growth), which means that comb should be perpendicular to the floor when properly lined up.
Step 3
Cut 1/2 inch directly above the comb line in the section you are currently working on.
Then take your comb and place it vertically and cut another 1/2 inch directly above the last cut you made.
Step 4
Repeat steps 2 and 3 till all of the dog’s hair has been cut.
Step 5
When you are finished cutting the hair, you will have a lot of hair that needs to be collected off the floor. Use your brush to sweep all the hair into one area, and then use your vacuum wand attachment to pick up all of the hair from that area. If you do not have a vacuum or an attachment, step on each clump of hair with your foot and then sweep it up.
Step 6
Take some water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray all over the dog’s head to wash away any loose hairs that are still on his head. Be sure not to get water in his eyes, which can often irritate.
Step 7
Once the dog is dry, you can comb his hair over to any section that needs it. It will make for a beautiful hairstyle that lasts longer.
